Arrrgghh shouldn't be doing all this windsurfing! Exam next week...!

Was sitting at my desk working, but couldn't help noticing the damn windy tree outside was swaying around with particular enthusiasm. Checked the Lee-on-Solent online weather station and it had just reported a 20 knot gust, so that was it I had to get down to Hillhead....again.

Was hoping it would be windy enough for smaller kit than yesterday, but when I got to Salterns Park at 3.30 pm it was looking just the same. Lots of windsurfers/kiters were packing up....not a good sign.....but there were still a few windsurfers out planing.

First run out and back and I thought that would be it. Didn't get going at all, not even close. Drifted a bit downwind so had to come in to walk back upwind again. As I was wading in I walked past a bloke giving a girl(friend?) a windsurfing lesson, whose face I recognised, then I realised it was Chris Audsley. Bit random that.

Was going to give up and go home in a sulk, but as I was wading in there was a gust..... Jumped on and got planing straight away. So after that stayed out, even though the wind was a bit iffy. Got better as the session went on though, planing comfortably most of the time, and my last few runs were very good, proper powered up and flying :)

Realised a mistake I had been making with gybes on the JP....my back foot had been too far back. Gybe exits were a lot cleaner when I put it further forwards, just behind the front straps. Must be helping me to get my weight forwards. Also made more of a conscious effort to look out of the turn at the end, which helped as well.

Overall more fun than yesterday, despite no sunshine, and most importantly no walks of shame. Once near the end during a lull I drifted a bit and I thought that would be it I'd have to walk-of-shame it back in, but then the wind picked up again very nicely and I had no problems getting back upwind. Feeling a bit guilty about going windsurfing instead of working, but at least it was a good one. I'll know this time next week after the last exam if I've got away with it.
